Fairbanks is a working town, and people come for a semester at UAF, a season on a project, or a week chasing the aurora. Our UAF guests tend to be visiting faculty and researchers, students between housing, parents helping with move-in, and families in town for graduation. We're a quiet, practical base: simple, warm rooms with fast WiFi, free parking and groceries steps away.
Planning around the UAF calendar
UAF runs on fall and spring semesters. Fall classes start in late August and finish with finals in mid-December; spring classes start in mid-to-late January and run into May. Check the UAF registrar for this year's exact dates before you book, then search those dates on our rooms page.
- Move-in and orientation weeks: a short stay while you find longer housing.
- A full semester: 30+ nights qualifies for the extended-stay bed-tax exemption and monthly billing.
- Spring commencement: book early, since graduation weekends draw families from all over the state.
Which room fits
- Queen Room: one queen bed, sleeps 2. A good fit for a visiting researcher or a student on their own.
- Two Doubles: two double beds, sleeps up to 2 adults and 1 child. Good for a parent and student, or a small family visit.
- Both studios share a kitchenette with a microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker and basic cookware.
- 2-Bedroom Apartment: two queen beds, sleeps 4, with its own full kitchen and living area. It currently has a 30-night minimum for arrivals through April 30, 2027.

Monthly stays, taxes and paying
We offer nightly, weekly and monthly rates. Under Alaska's extended-stay rule, stays of 30 nights or more are exempt from the Fairbanks bed tax that applies to shorter stays, and those stays are billed in monthly periods. Paying by ACH bank transfer avoids the card processing fee on extended stays. Our monthly stays page has a date search built for longer visits.
Getting to campus in winter
Campus is about 6.2 miles away, and most of our UAF guests drive. Free off-street parking with engine-block plug-ins comes with every unit, and Alaska DOT&PF has added public plug-ins at UAF's U-Park lot. Our winter plug-in guide covers when and how to plug in.
Day to day, Walmart and Fred Meyer are about 0.4 miles away, Safeway is across the street, and there are coin-operated laundry machines on site.
